A BOUTIQUE HOTEL IN THE
HEART OF THE FORTRESS-CITY
Located in the heart of this Alentejo city’s historic center, acknowledged as World Heritage by UNESCO, this hotel unit, which results from the rehabilitation of the ancient São Paulo Convent, is themed after the Portuguese military fortifications scattered around the world.
Using the building's original configuration - which after the extinction of religious orders stopped being a convent and worked as a military court, barrack and detention house - this hotel features 79 rooms (including seven two-floored mezzanine suites), two restaurants with a regional gastronomic offer dedicated to local flavors, bar, outdoor pool, spa with massage rooms, hydromassage pool, Turkish bath, sauna and indoor pool, and finally the cloister, back in green and fixed, two meeting rooms and an event hall that is set in the area of the old church, and is ideal for holding weddings and christenings.
To get to know Elvas, in addition to strolling the streets of the historic center, we suggest you visit the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Elvas Military Museum, the Graça Fort and the Santa Luzia Fort, the Nossa Senhora da Assunção (Our Lady of the Assumption) church or the ancient Cathedral, near the House of Culture. But you should not miss the castle either, as well as the seventeenth-century walls and the octagonal Dominican Nuns Church, and the Pillory area. Nearby, you can visit the Christs’ Museum in Sousel, or visit the cities of Mérida or Cáceres, both also classified as World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.
The Vila Galé Collection Elvas - Historic Hotel, Conference & Spa is the first hotel in Portugal to be completed under Revive, the public program for the concession and recovery of historical heritage.
