Vila Galé removes a tonne of rubbish from Touros beach in Rio Grande do Norte
VILA GALÉ TOUROS HAS PROMOTED A ‘CLEAN BEACH OPERATION’
The 1st Clean Beach Operation by Vila Galé Touros removed 1.2 tonnes of rubbish from the beach. This action, which took place last Saturday, 23rd March, in partnership with the NGO Numar, aimed to analyse the condition of the beach and encourage environmental preservation.
The clean-up effort covered a stretch of eight kilometres of coastline and involved 92 people, including volunteer workers, guests, members of the fishing colony, local residents, representatives of environmental bodies and others involved. The Touros Town Hall contributed with two tractors to help remove the waste collected.
“We were impressed by the amount and variety of waste found. We found a lot of plastic, including bags, glasses and bottles, as well as clothes, glass and even a mattress buried in the sand”, explained André Gamelas, Entertainment and Sustainability coordinator.
All the collected waste was sent to the municipal bodies that are in charge of cleaning up, ensuring that the materials are properly disposed of.
