About Isla Canela

Isla Canela is a coastal strip in the municipality of Ayamonte, in the far southwest of the province of Huelva, Andalusia. Bordered by the Atlantic Ocean and the Guadiana estuary, it sits on the border with Portugal and forms part of the Costa de la Luz, one of the best-preserved coastlines in southern Spain.

Known for its fine sandy beaches and open ocean horizons, it is a destination that captivates with its combination of sun, sea, and protected nature. The Marismas del Río Piedras form a rare and beautiful ecosystem of salt marshes, dunes, and trails ideal for birdwatching. The Guadiana estuary, shared with Portugal, is the setting for boat trips and a gateway to the historic town of Vila Real de Santo António.

Among the beaches, Isla Canela and El Hoyo stand out, both awarded Blue Flag status and offering quality facilities. Beyond the beach, the region offers golf courses, cycling routes, and water sports. The boat crossing between Ayamonte and Vila Real de Santo António, with views over the Guadiana, is one of the most recommended experiences in the area.

Gastronomy is a compelling reason to visit. The langoustines from Huelva, considered among the finest in the world, are a must at the table, alongside fresh seafood, grilled fish, and the flavours of Andalusian cuisine. Ayamonte, just minutes from Isla Canela, preserves a historic centre, traditional taverns, and the authentic atmosphere of the south.
