About Vila Galé – Portuguese Hotel Group with Hotels in Portugal, Brazil, Cuba and Spain

Vila Galé is one of the leading Portuguese hotel groups, currently ranked 120th in the global ranking of the 200 largest hotel chains published by Hotels Magazine, and 1st in the ranking of Portuguese companies in the sector. The group comprises several companies, among which VILA GALÉ – Sociedade de Empreendimentos Turísticos, S.A.

Founded in 1986, this company is responsible for operating and managing all the hotel units of the Vila Galé group, as well as developing new projects and building tourism developments in Portugal and abroad.

Vila Galé currently manages 52 hotels across four countries: 34 hotels in Portugal (Algarve, Beja, Évora, Elvas, Alter do Chão, Oeiras, Cascais, Sintra, Ericeira, Estoril, Lisbon, Coimbra, Serra da Estrela, Tomar, Figueira da Foz, Porto, Braga, Douro, Ponte de Lima, Madeira and the Azores), 13 hotels in Brazil (Alagoas, Rio de Janeiro, Fortaleza, Caucaia, Salvador, Guarajuba, Pernambuco, Touros, Angra dos Reis, São Paulo, Ouro Preto and Belém), 4 hotels in Cuba (Cayo Paredón Grande, Varadero, Cayo Santa María and Havana) and 1 hotel in Spain (Isla Canela) — a total of more than 10,000 rooms and over 25,000 beds.

With around 5,000 employees, much of Vila Galé’s success is due to the close bond between all teams, who share a common passion for hospitality and tourism.

Vila Galé, S.A.’s capital is entirely Portuguese. The Board of Directors is chaired by Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, the group’s founder, and also includes Gonçalo Rebelo de Almeida.

Social responsibility is a central pillar of Vila Galé’s activity. Regarding the group’s charitable dimension, the following initiatives stand out:

  • Donation of 70 daily meals to Associação SOL and 50 daily meals to CASA – Centro de Apoio ao Sem Abrigo;
  • Annual donation to 20 social solidarity institutions, based on the satisfaction questionnaire filled in by guests (for every questionnaire completed, €0.50 is donated to an association);
  • Donation of goods (furniture, consumer electronics, uniforms, textiles, crockery) to different institutions, during hotel refurbishments or re-equipping;
  • Organising initiatives that involve employees in charitable actions;
  • Hiring social economy companies for certain services;
  • Institutional cooperation for the socio-professional integration of potentially excluded people;
  • Providing services to social entities/projects, on free or symbolic terms, to support their activity;
  • Offering gifts on the occasion of charity dinners promoted by social organisations;
  • Extending Clube Vila Galé conditions to partners or beneficiaries of social organisations.
