Vila Galé Collection S. Miguel

Vila Galé has invested 15 million in its first hotel in the Azores.

Vila Galé has invested 15 million euros in Vila Galé Collection São Miguel, the group’s first hotel in the Azores.

Operating since 1st June, this boutique hotel is set in Campo de São Francisco, right in the centre of Ponta Delgada. It has 92 rooms of different types, two high-quality restaurants, with buffet and à la carte service, where regional cuisine stands out, two bars, outdoor pool, Satsanga Spa & Wellness with indoor pool and rooms for massages and aesthetic treatments, as well as rooms for events.

Housed in a historic building, Vila Galé Collection São Miguel is the result of the rehabilitation of part of the building where the São Francisco hospital used to operate, in a 40-year renewable surface right agreement with the charity Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Ponta Delgada.

Themed unit

This hotel is themed after the history of the Azores, the Azorean communities in the world, and the evolution of aviation.

This new hotel has generated 48 jobs and will officially open on 16th September this year.

“We have long wanted to have Vila Galé in the Azores, which was the only major Portuguese tourism region where we were not present yet. Finally, we were able to make this project a reality. Therefore, we have made another themed hotel, which has been becoming our brand image, this time honouring the archipelago and the Azoreans. And we want it to attract not only tourists, but also to be open and inviting to the entire local community of São Miguel, emphasises the Vila Galé group’s CEO, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida.

“In addition, this is one more unit that we have in a historic building, which we have rehabilitated to transform into a hotel and give it a new life, as we have been doing over the years in other units, both in Portugal and in Brazil”, he adds.

In this unit, you can enjoy some of the most typical national flavours every day in the “Seven dishes of Portuguese tradition” initiative. On Mondays, the Portuguese stew is of note and on Tuesdays we have triggerfish fillets with tomato rice. Wednesday is the day for fried liver with caramelised onions, bacon, and French fries, while Thursday is dedicated to sautéed squid with mashed sweet potatoes. On Fridays we serve crispy alheira sausage from Santa Maria with fried egg and sautéed broccoli rabe, on Saturdays we have codfish fried cakes with bean rice, and on Sundays we have octopus rice. The daily menu always includes Regional Steak, a São Miguel speciality. On Sundays, starting at 12 noon, there is also brunch for the whole family.
