Vila Galé Collection Amazônia Inauguration

The hotel is the 13th of the Portuguese group in Brazil and the 1st in the North. New units will also include new destinations.

The first hotel development of Vila Galé in the North of Brazil and the 13th in the country, Vila Galé Collection Amazônia was officially inaugurated on 31 October in Belém (PA), in a ceremony that gathered authorities, celebrities, journalists and partners, as well as the president and founder of the Portuguese Vila Galé group, Dr. Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, and the group’s administrator, Gonçalo Rebelo de Almeida.

On the occasion, Dr. Jorge celebrated the group’s arrival in Pará with the opening of Vila Galé Collection Amazônia, and took the opportunity to announce two new developments in Brazil, reinforcing his confidence in the country’s tourism potential: in Brumadinho (MG) and Florianópolis (SC). Although still without an opening date, these hotels will further diversify the company’s portfolio, which currently has 13 units operating in Brazil, in addition to four already under development: two in Alagoas and two in Maranhão.

Vila Galé Collection Amazónia

The result of an investment of R$ 180 million, Vila Galé Collection Amazônia was built within three century-old warehouses classified as Historical Heritage, located on the banks of the Guajará Bay. The entire original structure was preserved and completely reinterpreted, transforming buildings that had been unused for years into a hotel offering all the comfort characteristic of Vila Galé.

The hotel’s location is privileged. In addition to providing a stunning view over the Guajará Bay, the property is situated next to some of the city’s main tourist attractions, such as Caixa Cultural, the newly opened Museu das Amazónias, Estação das Docas and the famous Ver-o-Peso Market.

“Cities that do not restore their historic centres lose their soul, their history and their memory. It gives us great satisfaction to take an abandoned building and bring it back to life, as was the case with this and other projects of the group, including those we will soon inaugurate in São Luís (MA),” says Dr. Jorge.

2nd Collection hotel of the group in Brazil

The hotel has been awarded the Collection brand, which brings together the group’s properties featuring exclusive touches, prime locations, and the revitalisation of historic buildings. In addition, the hotel’s theme celebrates women. Prominent names such as singer Elis Regina, Saint Mother Teresa of Calcutta, and designers Mary Quant and Coco Chanel can be seen on the walls of the rooms, in the restaurant and in the common areas of the property.

“At Vila Galé Collection Amazónia, we wanted to pay a very special tribute to women, recognising their strength, sensitivity, courage and the way they transform the world around them. Every space in this hotel reflects that inspiration, and each woman honoured symbolises different expressions such as art, solidarity, sports, inventiveness and creativity. It is our way of acknowledging the fundamental role of women in society,” says Dr. Jorge.

With 227 rooms, including two suites, Vila Galé Collection Amazónia features two outdoor swimming pools with stunning views over the Guajará Bay, a Satsanga Spa with a heated indoor pool, a restaurant celebrating local flavours, a Nep Club with activities for children, and event facilities with four rooms accommodating 250, 100 or 60 people.

Exhibition “Women of the Amazon”

Further reinforcing the hotel’s theme, Vila Galé Collection Amazónia also hosted, on the 31st, the exhibition “Women of the Amazon”. With photographic curation by João Ramid and scientific curation by Mariluz Coelho from the VerAmazônia Institute, the exhibition brings together photographs by João Ramid, Ângela Berlinde and Lucília Monteiro, highlighting the strength of women as guardians of ancestral knowledge and creators of sustainable futures.

Among the stories presented is the photograph “The Riverside Woman and the Pink River Dolphin in the Rio Negro”, portraying a woman who developed a friendship with a boto, one of the symbolic animals of the Amazon, feeding it daily. When she moved house, the dolphin found her again and continued this special relationship.
