Last Saturday night (27/08), Vila Galé Hotéis officially opened the largest all-inclusive resort of Alagoas, located in Barra de Santo António, 40 minutes from Maceió. With an investment of R$ 150 million, the venture marks the 10th unit in Brazil, which now totals 3.7 thousand rooms. The opening was made official by the president and founder of Vila Galé, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, the Governor of Alagoas, Paulo Dantas, the former governor, Renan Filho, the mayor of Barra de Santo António, Lívia Carla, and the Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism of the State of Alagoas, Caroline Balbino. During the ceremony, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida announced the intention of another investment in São Luís, in Maranhão.

“It was a very difficult project due to a problem we had with one of the contractors and because we were surprised by months of extremely heavy rainfall, well above normal. Thanks to the effort of the construction workers and the core staff of Vila Galé, we were able to meet our goals. It is a victory”, celebrates Jorge Rebelo de Almeida. The resort had a soft opening on 22nd June.

INAUGURATION

OPENING

The opening had about 800 guests, including politicians, trade authorities, group partners, journalists, travel agents and operators, and was marked by two days of activities focused on valuing local communities, native people, African-Brazilian culture and literature. On Friday night, an Alagoas-themed Soirée counted on presentations by the Afro Cultural Group from Serra da Barriga, Inaê Cultural Group and Maculelê Cultural Group.

“Having a Vila Galé unit in Alagoas is a reason for great pride because this State is very rich in natural and cultural beauties and has a very welcoming people. We could not help but value all this richness in our opening, therefore we hired local dance, theatre, and music groups”, says Jorge Rebelo de Almeida.

In addition to local culture, literature was a highlight of the party, as Vila Galé Alagoas pays tribute to Portuguese-speaking writers from Brazil and Portugal. Every detail was designed to celebrate that theme. For example, every room has a reference to a writer. At the reception, female writers have also gained their own exhibition and there is a gallery of the 54 Nobel Prizes for Literature.

A Literary Picnic brought together writers Paula Pimenta, Thiago Teixeira, Bárbara Pinheiro, and Thiago Tomé for a debate on “The importance of literature for education in the country”.

The guests could also get to know the State’ natural beauties through a buggy and catamaran ride on the paradisiacal Carro Quebrado beach, and also meet the artisans who produce the traditional embroidery from Alagoas. The program also counted on a pool party and a Carioca (native of Rio) feijoada (bean stew) party, which made reference to Vila Galé Rio de Janeiro.
