AMBASSADOR: JOSÉ LUÍS PEIXOTO

José Luís Peixoto was born on the 4th of September 1974 in Galveias, in the Alentejo.

As a Portuguese narrator, poet and playwright, he had his first work published in 2000 and is currently one of the most prominent authors of contemporary Portuguese literature. His fictional and poetic work appears in dozens of anthologies, translated into a vast number of languages, and is studied in several national and foreign universities.

Visit the “Casas Altas” building, the chapel built by King João V in the 18th century, later converted into stables and now housing an Interpretation Centre where you can learn more about all the spaces to visit:

· the Mares’ Courtyard, where the breeding mares are kept;

· the King John VI Courtyard, with the Stallion Stables;

· The House of Carriages, the coach exhibition building

· The Falconry house, where you can observe the various species of birds and discover the evolution of this activity, which is now classified as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
