Overview of the project:
This project consists creating a 4-star hotel unit in the Cais das Pedras pier riverside area, in the city of Porto, resulting from the rehabilitation of a set of four buildings that were in very poor condition.
In this context, the facades facing the Cais das Pedras pier were preserved and the heights were respected, in order to better integrate the intended intervention, to maintain a due relation with the neighboring buildings and to value the riverfront. Accordingly, the facade of one of the existing buildings (one with two floors) was recovered and the surrounding architectural elements were copied for the whole. The intention there was that the hotel front, next to the Douro river, would emerge in an integrated way, giving rise to a hotel with 67 rooms, spread across four floors, and one basement floor for parking.
It was the goal of cherishing historical and cultural heritage and public facilities that led the entire intervention process, seeking above all to respect the “spirit” of the surrounding area, to integrate the hotel into the local reality and to frame it with the other architectural elements and the Douro river.
This project will play a key role in heritage recovery in the Urban Regeneration Area of the Historic Center of Porto, as it includes: the intervention unit of the Cais das Pedras pier block, integrated in the historic area of Porto, and classified as a Monument of Public Interest and a World Heritage Site by UNESCO; and the Miragaia Urban Regeneration Area, where other important facilities are located, such as the Old Customs House of Porto, the Santo António Hospital and the Rosa Mota Pavilion.
Additionally, the Vila Galé Porto Ribeira Hotel stands out for its implementation of an innovative concept, within the scope of Tourism becoming digital, where it intends to become a paper-free hotel, by using new techniques and equipment/software, and by allowing clients to experience their interaction with the hotel in a different way.

Síntese do projeto:
O presente projeto consiste na criação de uma unidade hoteleira de 4*, na cidade de Braga, assente na recuperação de um imóvel de interesse público (IIP), o hospital de S. Marcos, e respectiva adaptação das suas instalações à utilização hoteleira.
As origens do antigo hospital de São Marcos, classificado como imóvel de interesse público (IIP), pelo decreto lei nº DG, I Série nº146, de 13/07/1956, devido à fachada principal do Largo Carlos Amarante e respetiva igreja, remontam ao período medieval, e cuja história se relaciona com o de algumas figuras gradas da história portuguesa, como são os casos de D. Paio Mendes, D. Gualdim Pais e D. Afonso Henriques.
Resultante da reabilitação deste IIP, o Hotel Vila Galé Braga terá 123 quartos, salão de convenções para mais de 300 pessoas, 9 salas de reuniões, dois restaurantes, bar, adega, biblioteca, piscinas exteriores para adultos e crianças, spa com piscina interior, ginásio e salas de massagens, jardim interior e estacionamento.
Pretende-se, com este projecto, recuperar integralmente o exterior do antigo Hospital de S.Marcos de acordo com a sua arquitectura original de modo a restaurar a sua beleza e imagem histórica.
A utilização hoteleira de um edifício com estas características únicas, para além de representar uma mais valia, será inegavelmente um elemento altamente diferenciador na oferta existente (local, nacional e internacional).
Este projecto conta ainda com a implementação de um conceito que o Grupo tem vindo a desenvolver, no âmbito da digitalização do Turismo, em que através do recurso a novas técnicas, equipamentos/software, se pretende tornar o Hotel VG Braga num hotel paper free e permitir ao cliente uma experiência diferente na sua interacção com o mesmo.
