Vila Galé clean-up removes 2,000 kilos of rubbish from Carro Quebrado beach
The 1st Operation Clean Beach, carried out by Vila Galé Alagoas, removed 2,000 kilos of rubbish from Carro Quebrado Beach. This initiative, in partnership with Barra de Santo António Town Hall, aimed to analyse the condition of the beach and encourage environmental preservation.
The clean-up “task force” was carried out along the 5km stretch of beach and involved 120 people, including volunteer workers, guests, residents of Barra de Santo António, representatives of organisations linked to environmental preservation, and others.
“We were stunned by everything we found. We were really not expecting this much. There was a lot of plastic, such as bags, cups, and bottles, which take more than 400 years to decompose. We also found a lot of styrofoam and glass”, says the hotel's director, Eduardo Silva.
All the rubbish collected was sent to municipal cleaning agencies, which will dispose of it correctly.
“With this result, we're already thinking about new initiatives to protect the environment and we've decided to carry out this project more often”, explains the director.
