The Vila Galé Collection Braga results from the rehabilitation of the former São Marcos hospital complex, which had been vacant since 2011, thus allowing the re-qualification of a public interest property dating from 1508. Belonging to the charity Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Braga, in the meantime the concession was transferred to the Vila Galé Group to install the hotel.
Respecting the building’s historical and architectural aspects, which was built where there was a hermitage devoted to São Marcos, a hostel and a Templar convent, the existing structure and some original elements were preserved in this hotel unit, as is the case of the vaulted ceilings.
“This is another unique product in the Vila Galé network and it complements our hotel offer. With this hotel we will be able to capture several segments, from leisure, to corporate and to congresses and events. We have once again carried out a project that revitalizes and recovers historical heritage that was unused, giving new life to a building that is a landmark in Braga”, says the CEO of the Vila Galé Group, Jorge Rebelo de Almeida.
“For us, it is important to be present in Braga, as it is an increasingly vibrant and dynamic city, very young and lively, with a strong corporate presence, but also important due to the university and its technological environment”, he emphasizes.
He also stresses that “the unit’s location in the historic center, a few minutes’ walk from the main tourist attractions, and the combination of traditional and modern are the hotel’s distinctive features”.
With the Collection sub-brand, the Vila Galé Collection Braga is themed after the history of the archbishops and the founding of Portugal.
